PRESS: Shane and Amy Bugbee in Astoria’s Hipfish Monthly 1/13

Here is a great little piece of press that’s in our wonderful local arts and entertainment paper this month, The Hipfish Monthly (http://www.hipfishmonthly.com). It is a great paper, we always seek one out every month and feel honored to be in this issue. They did a nice write up on our project, the event at KALA, plus they included a full page excerpt from the book – our interview with famed anthropologist, author and professor, William H. McNeill.

Here is a link to the pdf of the entire paper: http://www.hipfishmonthly.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/113.pdf

The Suffering and Celebration of Life in America – A graphic diary of interviews, impressions, and a journey that birthed a fascinating record of America right now.” ~Hipfish Monthly Jan. 2013

PRESS: Very honest review, and interview with Shane and Amy on Gothcupcake

Creative entrepreneur, blogger and reviewer, Mary Cakes posted a very honest and mostly positive review of our book on her blog. She also did an interview with us.

Here are a few quotes from her review:

“From the title and description, I was expecting a travel journal of sorts with interviews, photos,  and stories of the couple on their excursion. However, upon reading, there was so much content in the book that I could not even figure out where to begin reviewing it.

“The interviews were the most interesting contributions and I especially enjoyed reading those of the strangers Shane and Amy had met along the way who kindly gave them a place to rest and recharge their batteries before heading back on the road again.

“Admittedly there was some material that made me uncomfortable, there are opinions that I didn’t agree with, photos that left me wide-eyed, there were times I second-guessed my decision to review the book (!!).”

34 – A Year At The Wheel PT 2 (Amy Bugbee)

Year On The Wheel Part 2 continues with Amy Bugbee’s take on the one year road trip took with her husband Shane. She discusses what she learned about America talking with people from all walks of life including a former CIA assassin, sex workers and born again Christians. Amy also tells a great tale of cleaning a strangers home while he masturbated to the Dukes Of Hazard movie.

“Conversations With Matt Dwyer” is a weekly show where Dwyer sits down and converses with people from all walks of life; from Harvard Graduates to BDSM porn actresses, Matt believes that an individual doesn’t have to be a famous to be engaging, fascinating, insightful or hilarious. Everyone has a great story and that story should be told. The concept of this show was inspired by the work of Matt’s hero, Studs Terkel, and is a dark tip of the hat to him.

PRESS: Hear Shane talking about this book and movie on the new podcast ‘Conversations with Matt Dwyer’

Hear Shane this week, Amy next week:

Underground legend and mogul Shane Bugbee returns with his wife Amy to discuss their book and documentary “A Year At the Wheel.” The two embarked on a year long road trip to document the tone of America, asking folks from all walks of life about art, politics, religion and revolution. They left for this trip with a turtle, a dog, a camera, a truck and $180. They survived by relying on the kindness of strangers and odd jobs, the result is a fascinating look into what Americans really have to say about the current state of America. Part 2 is Amy’s perspective on the trip.

PRESS: Review in the Chinook Observer: Hate mail turns to love letter in locals new book

HOT OFF THE PRESS: The Chinook Observer included a nice article about our book and movie project:

Hate mail turns to love letter in locals new book

http://www.chinookobserver.com/life/hate-mail-turns-to-love-letter-in-locals-new-book/article_b53cff7e-3e6d-11e2-89c0-001a4bcf887a.html

Thanks to Kevin Heimbigner for the nice reporting!

• The official release of the book and movie will happen on Inauguration Day, January 21, 2013. The book and movie will be available on this website or via amazon.com.

The hardcopy will sell for $30, the e-book will be considerably less, not sure yet the exact price, as restructuring the book for an e-book is a little more complicated than we had imagined:

Pre-order here: http://www.amazon.com/dp/1929399057/ref=cm_sw_r_fa_dp_5x3Uqb11N193C

Book plate – each is one of a kind, with a road memory, drawings, and a print from Myrtle and Cheyenne, signed and numbered.

• Available Now are two Limited Edition books, one is a softcover edition of 100 books featuring special cover art, it sells for $50, and a hardcover edition of only 23 books, which sells for $250. You can order them direct, right here: http://www.usaodd.com/?page_id=32

Each of the limited edition books include a hand drawn, one of a kind bookplate, with an original print of our dog’s paw and our turtle’s belly. They also include a DVD of the movie.

The hardcover features original 3D art made with clay and a wood burned book title, painstakingly created by Shane Bugbee, every one is slightly different (pictures, as seen below, just don’t do these justice.) It also includes a limited edition linoleum print designed by both Shane and Amy Bugbee.

The limited edition version was created for collector’s and those who want to support the arts. This project has been five years in the making, and we are financially struggling because of the time, care, and sacrifice’s made to produce this project.

The Hardcover edition, each includes wood bruned title place and original art on cover, hand made book plate inside.

We also plan to offer a downloadable pay-what-you-can version, once we work out the details of that, we will post in, most likely in late January or February.

Thank you for your support!
